1959 – 1979
Sportex founder George Webb Began his career riding motorcycles in the British Army. In fact, he dominated the whole Army whenever it came to Motorcycling,
Riding gear was limited and whilst serving and riding, George was testing and adapting clothing to improve comfort and safety whilst amassing a wealth of experience in motorcycle events around the world.
11 times Army motorcycle champion from 1970 to 1980
Around 50 International events rode including The Scottish Six Days Trial and the I.S.D.E
1979
Born with a simple vision
It was with his wealth of experience that Sportex Gear was born in Harrogate in 1979. Initially a small retailer selling their own products. The Sportex Vision was to help riders push to the limits whilst racing, or enjoy the open road while cruising with maximum protection and comfort and most of all be able to buy a product they could rely on.
1984
Sportex expands its dealer network
Realizing that demand for their products was growing, it was time to expand and Sportex began to supply the trade. The huge demand meant that it wasn’t long before Sportex became a household name.
1989 – 2000
Continued innovation
Sportex grows to become the highest selling motorcycle clothing company in the Uk. By continuing to test and develop new products, Sportex was quickly recognised by the trade as a company to reckon with. Sportex were soon supplying over 300 dealers nationwide.

2018 – Present
New Technologies
Sportex Gear is taken on by Del Stanley. Del, who has had a long standing connection with Sportex that goes back to the early days visiting trade shows seeking out new products and ideas is now continuing to adopt new technologies, introduce new products and progress as different materials and manufacturing techniques become available. We are constantly working hard to improve on everything we do, never resting on our laurels and always looking to improve.
